 4 Models of Woodsmans Pal Did you know that the Woodman's Pal is available in 4 models? The Classic #481 Woodsman's Pal is an extension, rather than a burden, to your arm. It is 10.5" long; 16.5" overall, with a 6" ash wood grip and 1/8" thick blade. The Classic is light-weight, compact and superbly balanced. The Premium #284 tool differs from the Classic in that the Premium Woodman's Pal includes a leather grip and steel knuckleguard. This best machete weighs 24 ounces and is 17" long. The blade thickness is the same as the Classic model— 1/8" thick. The Woodman's Pal Long Reach #145 is a lighter 14 ounces, 22 inches long, The blade thickness of the Long Reach is 1/16" thick, as opposed to the Classic and Premium models which are 1/8" thick. This is definitely the best machete for slashing through leafy, springy vegetation rather than for heavy-duty cutting that the Classic and Premium tools are meant for. The longer hardwood handle provides increased leverage to maintain the traditional chopping power of heavier models.
